WVU Football QB commit Brodie McWhorter

A WVU football commit kicked off his junior season in impressive fashion on Friday night. Class of 2026 quarterback Brodie McWhorter needed only one half of football to put up numbers and lead his team to a dominating win.

McWhorter completed 14-of-18 passes for 227 yards in Cass High School’s 48-0 victory over Model High School. He also threw three touchdowns in just the first half.

The Kingston, Ga. native, who committed to West Virginia as a three-star prospect on June 24, will be in attendance when the Mountaineers open their season by welcoming Penn State to Morgantown next weekend.

“More than thankful for all the love and letters from my people – Blessed to be a Mountaineer. Can’t wait to be back in Almost Heaven on the 31st,” he said on Aug. 12.

“All glory to God! There is nothing else like Morgantown and who wouldn’t want to play for coach Brown? More than grateful for the WVU staff. Country roads, take more home! Who’s next.” McWhorter wrote on social media at the time of this commitment.

Two major national recruiting outlets rank McWhorter as a four-star while one awards him only three stars.

To put McWhorter’s recruitment in context, he picked WVU over offers from Auburn, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Michigan State, North Carolina and Ohio State among others. And in addition to those offers, Alabama, Clemson, Louisville, LSU, South Carolina and Tennessee have also expressed interest.

At the time of his announcement, McWhorter was WVU’s the second commitment for their 2026 class.

West Virginia’s hope is McWhorter’s early commitment will help recruit other top prospects, including his cousin Bear.

Minutes after 2026 four-star offensive lineman Bear McWhorter announced he’s withdrawing his commitment to Arkansas, his cousin made his support clear.

“God’s timing… I just know you’ll make the right decision1 Love ya, cuzzo,” replied Brodie to Bear’s post on X (Twitter).

Of course, their relationship sparked WVU fans to speculate on the possibility Bear could join his cousin in Morgantown.

Adding a player of Bear’s caliber would be a big piece for WVU’s 2026 class, but of course, the Mountaineers will have plenty of competition for him throughout the next year. Florida State, Penn State, Tennessee and Virginia Tech are all considered to be in play again. WVU sent Bear an official offer back in early January.
