WVU offers Junior College OLB

West Virginia recently extended an offer to 6-foot-2 210-pound outside linebacker Charlie Benton. He currently holds one other offer, Bowling Green, but as the season rolls along the offers will start to stack up. Benton will have three years of eligibility left after his redshirt freshman year at Butler Community College.

Charlie was “really excited” when he got the offer from the Mountaineers and said “I’ve been working really hard for this moment”.

Assistant defensive coach Mark Scott reached out to give Benton the offer and I asked Charlie just how their relationship was starting off “we have a pretty good relationship, we stay in touch”.

Benton is not too familiar with the Mountaineer football program but says,“we have two players that just left in December that are currently at West Virginia and they told me it’s a good place to be”, those two players currently on the Mountaineer football roster, cornerback Fontez Davis and quarterback David Isreal.

Charlie is familiar with Tony Gibson’s defense and likes the 3-3-5.  Benton added “I could play either linebacker or safety” and watching him on film he could play either roll at a high level.

What jumps out at you on his highlights is his quickness (4.5 40), the way he attacks the ball and how he hard he hits the ball carrier.

Benton does not have a set date to visit but he plans on trying to get his visit to Morgantown soon.
