WVU Pursing Auburn DT Commit

West Virginia head coach Neal Brown made it clear that recruiting the southeast would be a priority for the Mountaineers in order to bring elite talent to Morgantown.

Sometimes, that means courting prospects already committed to SEC programs.

Defensive assistant Jordan Lesley made good on Brown’s promise over the weekend, offering Auburn commit and three-star defensive tackle Damarijhe Lewis.

“I was very excited to have a coach so far away recognize my talent. And for WVU to offer me, it means a lot.”

The 6-foot-3, 278-pound Lewis holds offers from Auburn, Miami, Georgia Tech, and Tennessee but says he still has a lot to prove.

“I can be dangerous in many ways, but I’m still strengthening my IQ. [I want to be] a little more quicker with my hands and get-offs this year coming up. Everyone is going to know about my speed and physical ability and view me as a freak on the field.”

Despite committing in Auburn in August, Lewis is approaching every offer he receives as an opportunity.

“[E]very offer I get means a lot to me no matter how big or small the school is. [I]’m still young. I’m just enjoying the process. Coming from Griffin (GA) is hard. I never thought I’d be the one to have so many options.”

Lewis added he plans on visiting Morgantown “soon.”
