Even though the WVU football spring practice session is not officially over, players are running out of time during this particular portal window to make decision on their future. And West Virginia wide receiver EJ Horton decided its best for him to transfer and leave the Mountaineers.

“Officially in the portal grad transfer can play all special teams,” posted Horton on X (Twitter) on Tuesday afternoon. He will be a grad transfer with one year left of eligibility.

Horton, who signed with WVU in May last year after spending three seasons with Marshall, will now play outside of the state for the first time in his college career. He ended up staying in West Virginia after initially committing to Colorado early in the offseason.

After recording 186 receiving yards on 12 catches in 12 games for the Thundering Herd in 2023, Horton caught just 10 balls for 201 yards and scored a touchdown as a Mountaineer.
