WVU Football Hudson Clement and Coach Bilal Marshall

After his career-defining game against Duquesne, freshman wide receiver Hudson Clement has gone from a walk-on depth player to a scholarship starter. West Virginia head coach Neal Brown announced on his radio show Thursday night that Clement will make his first career start against Pitt this Saturday in the Backyard Brawl.

In the game against Duquesne, Clement was the shining star. He had five catches for 177 yards and three touchdowns, a career day for any player, let alone a walk-on.

Clement came to WVU as a walk-on, unrated recruit from Martinsburg, West Virginia. Making a first career start in the Backyard Brawl for a person who grew up in the state only adds icing to the cake that has been Clement’s early-season fairy tale story.

Clement though will need to perform again to help West Virginia take a revenge game against Pitt after they were narrowly defeated last year, 38-31. That game though was in Pittsburgh while this year’s iteration will be in Morgantown this Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
