University High Survives Scare in the Kanawha Valley

Tonight the number one team in class AAA survived a tough road game at St. Albans Friday night, and it
was a dog fight from the third quarter on.

The Red Dragons of St. Albans started the game quickly, using their running game. St. Albans was able to do anything they wanted on the ground in the first half. The dragons took an early lead and didn’t look back, taking a 24-14 lead into halftime.

Coming out after halftime, University looked like a completely different team, scoring on their first
two possessions, getting themselves back into the game.

University was leading 31-30 with 2:23 left in the game, but St. Albans had the ball and was driving down the field, until a fumble killed the drive. It only took University two plays to put six on the scoreboard and extend their lead
37-30.

The Red Dragons had one final chance to tie the game up to force overtime. With the clock under ten seconds, St. Albans put the ball in the end zone and tacked on the extra point tying it up at 37, to give themselves a chance to knock off the number one team in the state.

University High got the ball first in the extra period and didn’t waste any time getting into the end zone to take a 44-37 lead. That’s all it would take for the Hawks to survive on the road, against a young and tough St. Albans team.
