Capital Rolls at Hurricane in a Top 10 Match-up
We were just outside the Kanawha Valley again on Friday night for another top-ten matchup. The seventh ranked Capital Cougars traveled to Hurricane to take on the sixth ranked Hurricane Redskins.
The Redskins scored first with a 76 yard touchdown pass from Nathan Roy to take a 7-0 lead. That would be the only touchdown the Redskins scored until late in the fourth. Capital scored on a 4 yard scoring run to tie the game up at 7 with about 8 minutes to go in the half.
Hurricane answered back with a field goal to take a 10-7 lead late in the first half. It didn’t take long for Capital to answer the Hurricane field goal but instead of three they answered with 6 to take a 13-10 lead. Hurricane punted back to Capital with a minute to go in the half. Hurricane forced a Capital fumble and recovered the ball on the Cougars 15, but the drive stalled and Hurricane took advantage with a field goal. The Cougars would block the kick and return it 85 yards for a touchdown to extend their lead going into half 20-10.
Capital came out firing in the second half and quarter back Kerry Martin threw a 20 yard strike to extend the lead to 27-10. The Cougars would hold the Redskins scoreless in the third quarter to take their 27-10 lead into the fourth.
Capital striked quickly again setup by a 37 yard pass from Kerry Martin. The Cougars plowed through with 2 yard touchdown run to extend the Cougars lead to 34-10. Hurricane would score late to make the final 34-16.
Another top ten matchup in the state and another not so close game.
