2024 three-star DL Richard James announced on Monday morning that he is decommitting from West Virginia. James, who was nearly committed to Neal Brown and his staff for over a year, made the announcement on social media.

“First I would like to thank the West Virginia staff for blessing me with the opportunity to play for their program and study at their University. With that being said, after talking it over with my family, we have decided to decommit from WVU. My recruitment is 100% open,” he wrote.

James (6-foot-1, 270 pounds) is ranked a 3-star prospect from Philadelphia, picking WVU over Ole Miss, Penn State, Temple and Texas A&M in May 2022. James was offered by WVU’s coaching staff in March 2022 and visited Morgantown later that month.

James was the first player player committed to West Virginia from the class of 2024.
