Emmitt Matthews Jr. Added to NBA Summer League Roster
Former WVU F Emmitt Matthews Jr. was added to the Atlanta Hawks summer league roster for this month. The Hawks released their summer league team, which includes the 2024 first-overall pick Zaccharie Risacher.
Matthews and the Hawks will begin summer league play on Friday, July 12 vs. the Wizards.

Matthews is coming off his first professional season, appearing in 28 games for the College Park Skyhawks, Atlanta’s G-League affiliate. Matthews averaged 3.7 points and 2.5 rebounds this past year.
During his fifth season of college basketball, Matthews helped West Virginia return to the NCAA Tournament. Matthews began his career at WVU playing for three seasons before transferring to Washington for a year. Matthews returned home before re-entering the transfer portal and returning to West Virginia for his final season.
Matthews averaged 10.2 points, 3.9 rebounds and 1.2 assists in 32 games for the Mountaineers during the 2022-23 year. The Tacoma, Wa. native shot 48 percent from the field and 31 percent from three.
Other Mountaineers that are playing in the summer league include Jesse Edwards (Timberwolves), RaeQuan Battle (Hornets), Jalen Bridges (Suns) and Tre Mitchell (Thunder). Edwards and Bridges signed two-way deals while Battle and Mitchell were invited to play in summer league, as they’ll get a chance to fight for a contract.
