Is Scotty Fox Ready to Lead Mountaineers to Success? | WVU Football All 105

All 105 is a West Virginia Sports Now series profiling each member of the 2026 WVU Football Roster.

In the midst of a competition with transfer Michael Hawkins Jr., Scotty Fox Jr., now a sophomore, is believed to have the edge as the incumbent and due to his familiarity with Rich Rodriguez from the 2025 season.

As a true freshman, Fox was called into duty after multiple injuries in front of him on the depth chart, eventually emerging as the most capable of West Virginia’s remaining options. And despite a rough season for the Mountaineers as a team, Fox showed some signs of potential.

15 • Scotty Fox Jr., freshman quarterback

Last year: Fox played quarterback in nine career games with five starts.

Stats: Fox threw for 1,276 yards, seven touchdowns and six interceptions. He added 201 more yards and three more scores on the ground.

Camp outlook: Fox wore a leg brace throughout most of the spring practice period, but most expect him to enter fall camp as the 1A to Hawkins’ 1B.

Projected role: It’s safe to say that Fox will see the field, even if he ends up backing up Hawkins.

Accolades, highlights: Fox became the first Mountaineer to have two games of 300 or more passing yards in a season since 2021. Dating back to high school, Fox scored 41 total touchdowns and accumulated 3,076 yards (324 of them on the ground) as a senior in 2024. That earned him a four-star ranking from Rivals and three-star billings from the rest of the recruiting services.
