Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC Sign Former WVU Soccer Star

A former Mountaineer has earned a professional opportunity up north in Pittsburgh. WVU soccer alum Max Broughton has signed a contract with the Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC of the USL, as announced by both the Riverhounds and the WVU Athletics on Wednesday.
“Max reads the game well and makes good decisions on the ball. His composure for a young player stands out and should serve him well adjusting to the pro game,” Riverhounds head coach Bob Lilley said. “We are excited to have him on board for 2025 and beyond.”

Broughton (6-foot-2, 170 pounds) played in 45 games over the past two seasons with the Mountaineers, collecting two goals and four assists. He played nearly 4,000 minutes at center back and anchored a defense that had 19 shutouts in the last two years. In 2024, Broughton was named a second team All-American and to the All-Sun Belt first team.
The Rawtenstall, England native helped the Mountaineers to two of their most successful seasons in program history, advancing to the NCAA College Cup in 2023 before winning both the Sun Belt Regular Season and Tournament titles this past year.
