There are reports suggesting West Virginia has found its next athletic director, but that does not mean they will be finding a new head coach.

After breaking the news about North Texas athletic director Wren Baker taking over for Shane Lyons at WVU, Ross Dellenger of Sports Illustrated is also reporting that Brown will not be fired and will return for another season as head coach. This goes along with a report from ESPN saying the same thing last week.

Report: WVU to Hire North Texas AD Wren Baker as Next Director of Athletics

“To reiterate: Though many expected a potential change at the head coaching position at West Virginia, Neal Brown is believed to be safe and will remain the coach in 2023 barring an unforeseen snag, sources tell SI Now,” Dellenger offered to go along with his story about the Baker hire.

While this might be disappointing to some who feel Brown has had enough time and three losing seasons in four years isn’t acceptable, but with several prominent coaches already being hired recently and the complications of a transitioning to a new athletic director and trying to keep a strong recruiting being evident, it now appears Brown will get another shot at turning things around for the Mountaineers.
