Former WVU WR Tavon Austin worked out with the Seattle Seahawks on Tuesday, as reported by KPRC Houston’s Aaron Wilson. A potential reunion for Austin and college quarterback Geno Smith is possible.

Austin has not played since the 2021 NFL season with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Austin appeared in 13 games, recording 234 scrimmage yards and one touchdown. Austin has had previous stints with the Green Bay Packers, Dallas Cowboys and St. Louis/Los Angeles Rams. The ex-Mountaineer has 3,600 scrimmage yards over nine seasons of professional football. Austin would join Smith for the first time since their playing days at West Virginia from 2009-12.

Smith is currently serving as the Seahawks’ starting quarterback for a second-straight season. Last year, Smith won the NFL Comeback Player of the Year award with over 4,000 passing yards and 30 touchdowns. Smith helped lead the Seahawks to a 9-8 record. Through three games in the 2023 season, Smith has 736 passing yards with four touchdowns and an interception.

During college, Austin and Smith won 35 games together under head coaches Bill Stewart and Dana Holgorsen. The duo appeared in four-straight bowl games, winning the Orange Bowl against Clemson in 2012 in blowout fashion.
