Shell Shock Shelled: Best Virginia Makes TBT Final Four

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Best Virginia advanced to the TBT Final Four Monday with a 74-61 win over Shell Shock.

James Reese V led all scorers with 24 points on the day.

Wesley Harris started scoring for the game, catching a lob from Jarrod West and finishing with a dunk for an early Best Virginia lead. He added a mid-range jumper on the next possession.

Shell Shock struggled to score, only tallying two points from the free throw line for a 6-2 Best Virginia lead with 3:49 remaining in the first quarter.

JD Weatherspoon came in for Best Virginia following the timeout, making two layups on consecutive possessions.

Reese took over when Shell Shock cut the lead to 10-9, as he scored seven straight points, starting with a mid-range jumper. He brought the crowd to its feet on defense with a blocked dunk against Ronald March and following up with a made three-pointer.

He scored a layup on the next possession, forcing a Shell Shock timeout. Isaiah Sanders added two free throws for a 19-9 Best Virginia lead at the quarter break.

The Best Virginia lead hit 12 points as Reese nailed another three-pointer at the 7:54 mark in the second quarter.

Shell Shock started clawing back, bringing the score within six points at 30-24 with 1:12 remaining in the half. Toby Okani added a layup for a 32-24 halftime lead.

West hit a three-pointer for Best Virginia’s first bucket of the half. Johnson and Reese added layups for a 39-26 lead, forcing a Shell Shock timeout at the 6:35 mark.

Shell Shock made it a 10-point game with a three-pointer from Eric Ayala before the media timeout in the third quarter.

The Maryland alumni cut the lead to seven out of the timeout before West made two crucial layups, putting Best Virginia up 47-36.

Reese answered the call to start the fourth quarter, drilling a mid-range jumper followed by an inside score from Okani. After Shell Shock cut the lead to two points, Reese followed with a three-pointer at the seven-minute mark.

Okani made a corner three-pointer  just before Reese made an and-one layup in time for the Elam Ending. He made the free throw for a 65-54 score, making the target score 73.

Shell Shock scored five straight points before a floater from West and a layup from Johnson, making it 69-59.

Weatherspoon finished the game with a put-back dunk.
