WVU Basketball transfer recruit Duncan Powell

Recently, it has been quiet on the transfer portal side of things for West Virginia basketball. The Mountaineer staff has three spots remaining and can play their cards to round out the 2024-25 roster.

Duncan Powell, who committed to Louisiana this offseason, recently reopened his recruitment. Powell averaged 12.1 points, 7.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists at Sacramento State this past season. The 6-foot-8 forward shot 49% from the field as well. Powell has two years of eligibility remaining and began his career at North Carolina A&T.

West Virginia is one of the few Power-5 schools to contact the Dallas, Texas native recently in the transfer portal, per The Athletic’s Tobias Bass. Florida State, Kansas, NC State, Texas and Virginia Tech are the other schools that have contacted Powell.

WVU has picked up seven transfers this offseason: Tucker DeVries (G – Drake), Sencire Harris (G – Illinois), Amani Hansberry (F – Illinois), Toby Okani (F – UIC), Eduardo Andre (C – Fresno State), Javon Small (G – Oklahoma State) and Joseph Yesufu (G – Washington State).

West Virginia lost Josiah Harris (F), Seth Wilson (G), Patrick Suemnick (F), Kerr Kriisa (G), Jeremiah Bembry (G), Kobe Johnson (G), Ali Ragab (C) and Noah Farrakhan (G) to the transfer portal.

The transfer portal entry window closed on Wednesday, May 1, but players just need to be entered by then and can extend their recruitment as long as they want to.

It’s looking like our new basketball coach is having a lot of luck putting together the new basketball team and I am excited to see the players that he has recruited to play for the Mountaineers and Mountaineer nation.
My best wishes and support for every member of our team.
