11-1 starts are the expectation now for the West Virginia basketball program.

With the win over Youngstown State on Wednesday night, the Mountaineers move to 11-1, extending their winning streak to eight games. WVU has not lost since Nov. 19, when Marquette handed them their only loss of the season so far

West Virginia have started 11-1 six times in the last eight seasons.

The Mountaineers have made the NCAA Tournament in four times out of those seasons. The only time West Virginia didn’t make it to the tournament was when the pandemic shut down March Madness in 2020, where WVU was projected to make the field at the time. As of Friday, the Mountaineers were projected a 7-seed in the NCAA Tournament, in the latest Bracketology update.

Out of those six seasons, WVU has made it to the Sweet 16 three times (2015, 2017, 2018).

The current West Virginia team will dig right into the Big 12 gauntlet, starting on New Year’s Day. WVU will start conference play in Austin, TX, going to play No. 16 Texas.
