West Virginia basketball is entering a new era under head coach Darian DeVries. DeVries has brought in a new staff while only returning one player from last season’s roster. EvanMiya, an analytical database, has included WVU’s transfer class in his top rankings.

West Virginia’s overall transfer rankings, including the departures, come in at No. 16 while just their incoming transfers rank at No. 17.

West Virginia has brought in eight transfers during this portal cycle. EvanMiya has the Mountaineers 5th in the Big 12 with the overall transfer activity.

Other Big 12 teams in EvanMiya’s top 25 transfer rankings include Kansas State (5), Kansas (10), Baylor (11), Texas Tech (15), Iowa State (22) and Cincinnati (23).

West Virginia’s transfer class is highlighted by Tucker DeVries (F – Drake) and Javon Small (G – Oklahoma State). Both DeVries and Small have been ranked highly in the transfer databases, including The Portal Report’s database with DeVries at No. 1 overall.

The new Mountaineer staff have rounded out the roster with Toby Okani (G – UIC), Sencire Harris (G – Illinois), Amani Hansberry (F – Illinois), Eduardo Andre (C – Fresno State), Joseph Yesufu (G – Washington State) and Jayden Stone (G – Detroit Mercy).

West Virginia has 11 scholarship players on the roster with two spots available for the 2024-25 season if they choose to use them.

Sounds like an objective rating. WVU may struggle again this year without a big man in the best conference. The one thing we know is they’ll be better than last year – but possibly not a lot better.
