What Chance Moore Will Bring to WVU Basketball as He Prepares to Make Debut

WVU Basketball guard Chance Moore

At 5-0, there’s a belief from Ross Hodge that his WVU basketball team will keep getting better as the season progresses. Part of his belief stems from his team playing its first five games less than full strength.

Fortunately for the Mountaineers, they will likely be able to utilize a key piece for the first time when they next take the court. Fifth-year guard Chance Moore is expected to make his season debut this Friday when West Virginia opens up play in the 2025 Shriners Childrenโ€™s Charleston Classic from TD Arena in Charleston, S.C.

It will remain to be seen how Hodge works Moore into the lineup, but he will be a welcome addition nonetheless.

Moore comes to WVU after a lone season for St. Bonaventure, where he averaged 13 points, 6.5 rebounds and 1.3 steals per game. He also was 10th in the Atlantic 10 in rebounds.

Moore’s 6-foot-6, 210-pound frame helps when rebounding and scoring inside. That combined with his ability to knock down shots from three-point range make him an offensive threat anywhere in the half court.

While he started every game for the Bonnies last season, most expect him being a bench player for WVU. He knows how to make the most of his time on the court, as he was named to the MVC 2022-23 All-Bench Team as a reserve with 10.6 points per game for Missouri State.

On top of his accolades, Moore has experience making big plays in Morgantown. He was a part of the 2023 Missouri State team that lost 67-59 to the Josh Eilert-led Mountaineers. Moore tallied 24 points and eight rebounds.

โ€œWe are excited to have Chance join the WVU basketball program,โ€ Hodge said in a release after announcing the signing of Moore. โ€œChance has the ability, size and physicality to impact both sides of the ball and impact winning at a high level. He is a high character individual who will align closely with the values of WVU, the state of West Virginia and our basketball program.โ€
