Former WVU wide receiver Gary Jennings has turned a workout into a full-time spot in a matter of weeks as he attempts an NFL comeback.

Weeks after working out for the Los Angeles Chargers, Jennings gets added to their active roster. Matt Zenizt of CBS Sports reported the news of Jennings’ signing on Tuesday afternoon. Jennings signed to the Chargers’ practice squad last week, but is now being elevated to the main team.

Since his time as a Mountaineer from 2015-18, Jennings has bounced around on various NFL practice squads and XFL and then UFL teams, most recently the St. Louis BattleHawks (2023, 2025 and the Birmingham Stallions, respectively.

Jennings was drafted in the fourth round of the 2019 NFL Draft, but spent most of his NFL journey bouncing around the league on practice squads. He was a second-team All-Big 12 player for WVU in 2017.

WVSNโ€™s Mike Asti spoke to Jennings in April, 2023 about his XFL season and mindset for the future. The talk can be found below on our YouTube channel.
