WVU Baseball Sees Winning Streak Snapped at 14

The WVU baseball team’s 14-game winning streak concluded on Tuesday, April 22, as the Mountaineers fell 3-2 to the Penn State Nittany Lions.
The Mountaineers (34-5, 13-3 Big 12) put at least one runner on base in all eight of nine innings played, but never managed to plate the tying run. West Virginia’s winning streak marked their longest of the season; they also won 13 in a row to begin 2025.
After Benjamin Hudson fanned two batters to begin the game, Penn State designated hitter Jack Porter stung him for a solo shot off a 1-2 pitch, pushing the Nittany Lions in front 1-0.
Brodie Kresser singled and Spencer Barnett doubled with one out in the fifth. Skylar King lifted a fly ball to center field, but it wasn’t deep enough for Kresser to risk tying up and trotting home. The scoring chance ended one pitch later with another fly ball, this one off the bat of Logan Sauve.
Penn State added to their lead in the bottom of the frame, pulling ahead 3-0 with the help of a fielding error and a passed ball.
Kresser walked in the seventh inning and Barnett closed the Mountaineers within a run via a moon shot to the right field power alley.
