WVU Basketball Drops Double-Digits in KenPom Following Xavier Loss
WVU basketball saw a significant fall in its KenPom ranking Sunday after losing 78-68 to Xavier. After starting the day at No. 62, the Mountaineers are now ranked No. 74.
WVU went from a net rating of 13.97 to 11.94.
Prior to an 0-2 showing in the Shriner’s CHildren’s Charleston Classic, West Virginia had a resume that consisted of a 70-54 win over Mount Saint Maryโs, a 73-65 win over Campbell,ย a 69-47 victory over Lehigh, a 71-49 domination of Pitt in the Backyard Brawl and then a 81-59 blowout win over Lafayette on Monday.
WVU started last season at No. 87 in the KenPom rankings and ended at No. 51.
This season marks the first year of Ross Hodge at the helm of WVU, with the program seeing its fourth head coach in as many years.
Looking at the rest of the Big 12, Houston is No. 4, Arizona is No. 6, BYU is No. 9, Iowa State is No. 11, Baylor is No. 20, Kansas is No. 28, Texas Tech is No. 30, Cincinnati is No. 45, Kansas State is No. 49, Oklahoma State is No. 58 and UCF is No. 66. TCU trails WVU at No. 80.
WVU basketball will take the court again at 3 p.m. next Sunday when it hosts Mercyhurst at the Hope Coliseum.

i told you we should have gone after pitino,, but for some reason,, i don’t think he was even interviewed,, so we see now what we have against good competition,, sad, we’re just sad,, i wasn’t wrong about hodge podge after all,, he’s in over his head,,i’m getting tired of the losing in football and basketaball,, i’m too old to wait much longer to see us get better in football and basketball,, i dread watching us in the big 12,, ross just doesn’t have the experience to face up against big12 talent.. long long season.maybe we should drop down a level in both football and basketball,, i’m just not impressed by rrod on ross

Whoa, okay, KenPom drop stings! From No. 62 to No. 74, thats a bigger tumble than Diore Hubbards production numbers against Colorado, I guess. ๐ Ross Hodges first year out, and things are already more volatile than the Big 12 championship titles the wrestlers won. Maybe next year the net rating will be as stable as the scholarship increase theyre planning? Gotta love the Mountaineer Reports optimism, even when WVU basketball is bouncing around like a lost recruit trying to find the portal. #GoMountaineers… unless the KenPom rankings keep falling!
