WVU DL Taurus Simmons Withdraws from Transfer Portal

Published

Cross one portal loss off the list for West Virginia as defensive lineman Taurus Simmons may not be leaving the Mountaineers after all.

Mike Farrell, who works with us within the Sports Now family of networks, says that Simmons has officially withdrawn his name from the Transfer Portal. Taurus initially entered his name in with the intent to transfer a few weeks ago.

Keeping Simmons is a nice piece of positive news for the WVU program, especially because of losing so much other depth on the defensive line. Simmons experience and remaining eligibility could even offer the possibility he could step up as the new anchor for the line and fill the void left by Dante Stills.

Simmons, coming off his sophomore season, recorded 16 total tackles, 8 assists and two sacks during his time as a Mountaineer. The Georgia native played in only three games in 2020 and received a redshirt.

While Simmons hasn’t yet been able to truly leave his mark at WVU, space on the defensive line is more free in 2023 and beyond with the graduation of Stills and the departures of others.
