WVU Sends Out Offer To 2021 Athlete

Published

Class of 2021 athlete Christian Leary announced on Twitter today that he had received a scholarship offer from West Virginia. Leary predominantly played wide receiver and is an Orlando native, attending the same Edgewater High School as former Mountaineer safety and first round pick Karl Joseph.

Leary said that his initial reaction to receiving an offer from the Mountaineers was, “Shocked but very excited.” He, like many other skill position players his age, were already familiar with the program, having idolized Tavon Austin as a child, while also growing up in the same community as Karl Joseph. He may remind his fans at Edgewater of Austin a bit, standing 5’9″ and running a 10.80 100 meter dash on the track.

He praised his high school coach Cameron Duke as an important piece in his recruiting process, stressing the strong trust he has with Coach Duke and the father figure role he serves in for Leary. While it is still early in the game for 2021 recruiting, running backs coach Chad Scott is serving as the lead recruiter for Leary and he said that he will hopefully be making a visit to Morgantown this summer.

Many other schools have reached out to Leary, leading to an extensive offer sheet that already includes West Virginia, Nebraska, Indiana, Georgia Tech, FIU, Kent State, Toledo, Syracuse, UCF, Vanderbilt, Western Michigan, and Pittsburgh. He also said that he has not considered which schools stand out to him at this time.
