WVU Women’s Basketball Signs BYU Transfer Marya Hudgins

On Tuesday, WVU women’s basketball head coach Mark Kellogg announced the addition of Marya Hudgins (Aurora, Colo. / BYU / Santa Clara / Grandview HS) to a grant-in-aid for the 2026-27 academic year.

“Marya is a versatile guard/forward with great instincts and a strong feel for the game,” Kellogg said in a statement. “She can knock down shots consistently, attack off the bounce with intensity, and get to the rim, while also bringing physicality and effort on the glass. Her positive spirit and competitive nature are exactly what we look for in our program, and we are thrilled that she’s a Mountaineer.”

The 6-foot guard from Aurora, Colorado, has played three seasons of collegiate basketball with one season of eligibility left. She played her freshman and sophomore seasons at Santa Clara before continuing her career at BYU for the last two seasons. She redshirted the 2024-25 season due to injury.

Last season, Hudgins played in and started 27 contests for BYU, where she averaged a career-high 9.1 points per game. She averaged 4.6 rebounds per game and shot 90% from the charity stripe. She had a career night against then No. 17 Vanderbilt, scoring a high of 24 points after knocking down 10 field goals, including four from beyond the arc. She added 12 rebounds in the contest to collect a double-double.

During the 2024-25 season at BYU, Marya started all seven games she appeared in for the Cougars before sustaining a knee injury that sidelined her for the rest of the season. She shot at a clip of 37.5 percent from three before her season was cut short.

At Santa Clara, Marya competed in 63 contests where she averaged 7.6 points and 5.1 rebounds per game. She was named to the WCC All-Freshman Team during the 2022-23 season.

In high school, she was a four-year varsity starter at Grandview High School, where she was a 2022 5A Colorado State Champion and named to the 2022 5A Colorado All-State Team. She adds another state title, winning the 2019 Georgia State Champion at Holy Innocents’ Episcopal School.  She was named a First Team All-Centennial League and a two-time Academic All-State selection.
