WVU basketball head coach Ross Hodge opens the week by announcing the signing of Martin Somerville to a grant-in-aid to join the Mountaineers for the 2026-27 season.

Somerville, a 6-foot-3, 185-pound junior from Bowie, Maryland, will come to Morgantown from Florida State, where he played last season. His signing comes four days after his commitment was reported.

West Virginia will now be third school for the 6-foot-3, 185-pound sophomore in as many seasons. In his lone year at Florida State, Somerville averaged 8.0 points, 3.0 rebounds and 2.4 assists in 33 games with 10 starts. Prior to jumping to the Power Four level, Somerville averaged 8.0 points, 3.7 assists, and 2.9 rebounds in 32 games at UMass Lowell.

Somerville was named the 2025 American East Rookie of the Year as a redshirt freshman.

โ€œMartin has all of the leadership qualities and intangibles you look for in a player,โ€ Hodge said in a statement. โ€œHe is someone who can play on or off the ball scoring it or making plays for others. He is a connector and has an infectious personality. We are excited to add him to our program.โ€
