West Virginia senior third baseman Kevin Brophy has been named one of nine National Players of the Week by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper.

Brophy collected four hits last weekend while WVU (4-2) played three games in South Carolina in the CCU Baseball Tournament. Those four hits were three home runs and a double in 13 at-bats. He finished the weekend with seven RBI and three runs scored.

West Virginia went 2-1 over the weekend, defeating Kennesaw State on Friday and Bryant on Sunday and losing to Coastal Carolina on Saturday. The Mountaineers maintained their No. 23 ranking in the D1Baseball.com top 25. Other Big 12 teams in the ranking are No. 10 Texas Tech, No. 13 TCU, No. 15 Oklahoma State and No. 19 Texas.

WVU baseball will not play against for at least a week as WVU announced Tuesday morning that the team will be pausing activities due to COVID-19. That pause will wipe out a three-game home series against Kent State this upcoming weekend and a home non-conference game against Marshall scheduled for next Tuesday.

WVU’s next scheduled game is now Thursday, March 11 at home against Central Michigan, the first of a three-game series against the Chippewas.
