West Virginia RB Lyn-J Dixon Enters Transfer Portal

Published

on

Lyn-J Dixon, who transferred to West Virginia earlier this off-season from Clemson, has re-entered the transfer portal after just a few months with the team in West Virginia.

A report by Mike Casazzara of Eersports, the West Virginia branch of 247Sports, suggested that Dixon’s departure from the team was not strictly voluntary.

A source later confirmed to us at West Virginia Sports Now that he was dismissed from the team towards the end of last week, though our source didn’t give a reason for the dismissal.

Dixon previously violated team rules while at Clemson with him even being suspended for three quarters in their 2021 opening week loss to Georgia, 10-3 and played sparingly that season. Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney said at the time that he needed to “grow up.”

Regardless, Dixon enters the transfer portal having never played a snap of meaningful football for West Virginia. His loss still makes it tougher for the team to replace 2021 starter Leddie Brown who is signed with the Los Angeles Chargers as an un-drafted free agent.

Currently on the depth chart, returning back Tony Mathis Jr. looks to be the starter this upcoming season. Behind him though, the departure of Dixon leaves a glaring lack of experience with sophomore Justin Johnson Jr. and redshirt freshman Jaylen Anderson.

Mathis has some experience with 90 carries in his career for 367 yards (4.1 average per carry) and one touchdown across 17 total games. Johnson only took 77 snaps total last season and Anderson, being a redshirt freshman, obviously doesn’t have any collegiate game experience.

Dixon came to West Virginia with a lot of experience at a major university in Clemson. Dixon ran 1,420 yards and 13 touchdowns on 218 carries in a four-year span at Clemson. He transferred to West Virginia in November, after just three games and 10 carries with Clemson in 2021.
