Poll: Which WVU Football Great Do You Most Want to See as Coach in Future Spring Game?

The returns of WVU football legends Pat White and Pat McAfee as coaches for the Gold-Blue Game brought back great memories and created one question for Mountaineer fans. Having both White and McAfee back on campus offered a sense of nostalgia for a proud West Virginia proud as it looks to continue a climb back to national contention.

With all of that said, seeing White and McAfee as honorary coaches for the day also made WVU fans hope this starts a tradition of more former greats coming back to serve in a similar capacity in future spring games.

An historic program like West Virginia is full of legendary figures from the past, many of which are still young enough and able to coach a spring game. Obviously, logistics can cause complications with alumni spread out all over the country and focused on their own lives, but all of that aside, there are other names who could spark excitement if roaming the sidelines on Mountaineer Field at Milan Puskar Stadium for a day.

I JUST WANT TO SEE PAT WHITE ON THE COACHING STAFF , COACHING GREENE,,,,ONE OF OUR VERY GREAT DUEL THREAT QB’S PAT WHITE SHOULD HAVE BEEN HIRED AS THE QB COACH,, BROWN BLEW IT ON HIS HIRE,, HE HAD A CHANCE TO BRING IN TONS OF FANS FOR HIRING WHITE, BUT INSTEAD , HE HIRES A NOBODY,,,PAT WHITE NEEDS TO BE ADDED AS A FULL TIME COACH,, RUNNING BACK OR QB EITHER ONE, HE WOULD BE AN ABSOLUTE POSITIVE TO THIS TEAM AND BE AN EXCELLANT RECRUITER,, BUT BROWN BOTCHED THE HIRE,, AND NOW WE DON’T HAVE PAT ON THE STAFF,,, SAD REALLY SAD

This take comes with so much of a lack of understanding of the situation. You have no idea White would want to return for that role when it would mean moving his family etc. Brown also promoted someone who was already on the staff, had been a very important part of Greene’s development and was literally who Greene wanted to get the job. Being great player does not also automatically make someone a great or better coach. Tyler Allen made plenty of sense for the QB coach role.
