Report: Big 12 in ‘Deep Discussions’ with Six Pac-12 Schools

As first reported by Dennis Dodd of CBS Sports, the Big 12 is in “deep discussions” with Arizona, Arizona State, Colorado, Oregon, Utah and Washington. The potential addition of six Pac-12 schools would bring the Big 12 to 18 teams.

It was reported by Jason Scheer of WildcatAuthority that Arizona, Arizona State, Colorado and Utah would be meeting with the Big 12 Conference this week.

Oregon and Washington have been linked to the Big Ten conference for the last few days, but the Big 12 has swooped in to poach from the Pac-12. Both universities were original members of the conference, first joining in 1915. Since then, Oregon and Washington have been one of the Pac-12’s biggest markets.

Last week, USC and UCLA announced their future departure from the Pac-12, joining the Big Ten in 2024. This sent the whole landscape of college athletics into a frenzy. The Big 12 Conference is now trying to poach as many Pac-12 schools as interested. If everything goes to plan, the Big 12 would become the largest conference in all of FBS, being a coast-to-coast conference.

What’s set in stone is BYU, Cincinnati, Houston and UCF will join the Big 12 in July 2023 to bring the conference total to 14 schools. Oklahoma and Texas are still set to leave for the SEC in 2025, but who knows if all of this creates a quicker exit.
