Drake 3-Star Signee Andrell Burton Jr. Requests NLI Release

Drake 2024 signee Andrell Burton Jr. announced on Wednesday night that he’s requesting a release from his National Letter of Intent with the University. Burton is a three-star forward from Wichita, Ks.

“First I would like to thank God, my family and coaches for helping guide my way through this process. After hearing the news about Coach DeVries leaving the Drake Program, I would like to announce I have requested a release from my National Letter of Intent from Drake University. My Family and I will take this time to re-open my recruitment and reassess the best path to further my education and athletic career.”

Before committing to Drake, Burton received offers from Missouri-Kansas City, Saint Louis, SIU Edwardsville, South Dakota State, Wyoming and others. Burton wrapped up his high school career at Campus Haysville, where he averaged 15.0 points, 6.9 rebounds, 1.3 steals and 1.1 blocks, according to MaxPreps.

Burton becomes the second Drake recruit to ask for an NLI release, with 2024 G KJ Tenner being the first. Tenner, who won Tennessee’s Mr. Basketball award this year, is a 6-foot prospect out of Cordova High School in Memphis. Tenner originally signed with Drake during the early period back in November.

WVU currently has one signee for the 2024 class in guard Carmelo Adkins.
