Huff, Eaglestaff Score 20+ in WVU Basketball Win Over Little Rock

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – WVU basketball dominated Little Rock 90-58 to move to 8-3 Tuesday thanks to leading performances by senior guards Honor Huff and Treysen Eaglestaff. Huff finished with 24 points and Eaglestaff had 23.

Eaglestaff found himself open from the right corner to start the game and earned three points as a result. After Little Rock cut the lead to 3-2, senior center Harlan Obioha added four more with two free throws and a dunk through contact.

Freshman guard Amir Jenkins made a heavily contested mid-range jumper late in the shot clock and then made an and-one layup on the next possession, converting the free throw. The Mountaineers kept momentum and turned a 13-2 run into a 20-6 lead.

Huff heated up from three after senior forward Brenen Lorient threw down a driving dunk over a Trojan defender. Huff followed with a trio of consecutive three-pointers for an 11-2 run and 33-11 lead.

Eaglestaff added another pair of threes in the last two minutes to help WVU to a 47-23 lead at halftime.

Little Rock opened scoring before a 9-2 WVU run ensued, including five points from Eaglestaff.

The Trojans eventually found a spark for a 10-2 run where WVU’s only points were a dunk from Lorient. The Mountaineers responded with a 9-0 run where there first seven points were scored by Eaglestaff.

Huff put WVU up by 40 points with a three-point shot at the 4:26 mark. It also capped off a 19-1 run.

Junior forwards Truman Claytor IV rattled in a three-pointer at the 3:37 mark. It was the Trojans’ first field goal since the 10:24 mark, ending a 6:42 field goal drought.

The Mountaineers closed the game out with two 20-point performances where Huff and Eaglestaff went 13-21 from three-point range and combined for 47 points.

WVU basketball will take the court again at 8 p.m. on Saturday when it plays Ohio State at the Cleveland Hoops Showdown.
