WVU Women’s Basketball to Play Big Ten Opponent in Greenbrier Tip-Off

WVU women’s basketball will return to the Greenbrier Tip-Off this season to take on Northwestern on Nov. 13, the team announced in a release.

The Mountaineers made a fantastic first impression to the Greenbrier Tip-Off last year, defeating No. 15 Duke after a series of ejections led to WVU only having five players in the second half. The squad mounted a second-half comeback and became known as the “Greenbrier Five.”

Northwestern is a step down in terms of quality of opponent, as the Wildcats went 8-21 last year with an 11-game losing streak to end the season.

Head coach Mark Kellogg spoke on the excitement to return to the Greenbrier in the release.

“We’re honored to play in the Greenbrier Tip-Off for the second straight season and to face a quality opponent like Northwestern,” Kellogg said. “It’s a tremendous early-season opportunity for our program. Representing West Virginia at such a historic venue, in front of our fans in the southern part of the state, means a lot to our program. Our group is excited and ready to embrace the challenge.”

Aside from dates with unknown opponents for the Battle 4 Atlantis, WVU’s game against Northwestern is the only confirmed game on the schedule.
