2027 Recruit Gavyn Combs Reveals a Lot About WVU Football Visit
In a very most detailed posts after a visit, a notable defensive line prospect discusses his visit to experience the WVU football program.
Gavyn Combs, a 6-foot-5, 290-pound Kentucky product, thanked the West Virginia staff, revealed what went on during his trip to Morgantown and even offered a couple inside jokes with coaches.
“A huge thank you to the entire WVU football staff for an incredible day at camp! I had an awesome time learning from the coaches, competing against some talented players, and getting great coaching throughout the day,” said Combs at the open of his post on X (formerly Twitter).ย
“One of the coolest moments was running through the tunnel onto the field and hearing โTake Me Home, Country Roadsโ echo through the stadium to close out camp. Thatโs something Iโll never forget. Thank you to Rich Rodriguez, William Green, Travis Trickett, Alex Miller and RayQuan Horton for taking the time to coach and get to know me,” he said.ย
He even included a video of a drill. While viewed as a defensive lineman in college, WVU offensive line coach Rick Trickett was coaching Combs up as well.
Combs even enjoyed wings at a popular Morgantown restaurant while in town.
“After camp, I enjoyed the best wings ever at Mario’s Fishbowl, where I got to meet and enjoy a great conversation with former Mountaineer and 3-time Parade High School All-American, Jim Cookman It was a great time in Morgantown, I canโt wait to get back up there!,” added Combs.
“Coach Trickett, Iโll find that Mexican restaurant in South Williamson you told me about! And Coach Hortonโฆdonโt worry, next time I come back Iโll be bringing you a box of Double Kwik Pizza Rolls! Thank you again for the opportunity and hospitality. Looking forward to building these relationships and getting back to Morgantown!,” he added.”ย
A high school All-American out of Betsy Lane, Ky., Combs is rated as a 2027 three-star recruit and has also earned interest from Kentucky, Nebraska, USC and Wisconsin.
