Reese shared the honor with Nike Sibande of the Aftershocks, Darius Adams of Fail Hearer and Gabe York of Eberlein Drive. Marcus Keene of the Aftershocks was named the tournament Most Valuable Player.
The guard helped Best Virginia with 21 points in a comeback win over Dubois Dream in the first round. He followed with a 20-point performance against Herd That for an 82-75 win.
Best Virginia secured the West Virginia Regional Championship with a 79-68 victory over Elite Nation, where Reese had 24 points. He added another 24 against Shell Shock in the fourth round, securing Best Virginia a spot in the semifinals.
In his final game of the tournament, Reese had 15 points against Eberlein Drive in an 85-77 loss.
Reese began his collegiate career at Buffalo in 2017. After not playing for a season at Odessa College, he played two years at North Texas under current WVU Head Coach Ross Hodge. He completed his career at South Carolina in the 2021-22 season, where he was a roommate with former Mountaineer Erik Stevenson.
Head coach Jarrod West Sr. had seen Reese play against his son, Jarrod West in college when North Texas faced off against Marshall. He said seeing him compete made him an easy selection for Best Virginia.

Everything that Iโve tried to instill in my boys, heโs a coachโs dream,โ West said in the postgame press conference after defeating Elite Nation. โSo didnโt know him personally. I know that he and Little Jarrod knew each other from competing against each other. So when the call came in about James Reese, a couple people didnโt know him. And I was like, heโs a no brainer.โ
Reese was the first player since Jimmer Fredette in 2019 to tally 20 points in the first four games of a TBT
