Toby Okani Saves Best Virginia in TBT First Round

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The first round of TBT play tipped off Friday and Best Virginia capped off the opening day of the West Virginia Regional with 72-69 win over the Dubois Dream.

Guard Toby Okani finished the game in a nail-biter Elam Ending by hitting two free throws to secure the win.

Guard James Reese V led the squad with 21 points and nine rebounds.

The Best Virginia lineup featured newcomers and 2025 graduates guard Toby Okani and center Eduardo Andre. Forward Tre Mitchell also joined the team for the first time after his lone season at WVU in 2022.

Okani finished the game with nine points and led all players in rebounds with 11.

Guard Keddy Johnson ย started at point guard. He finished with 10 points, seven rebounds and six assists.

Guard Wesley Harris opened scoring with a triple from the right corner. After the Dream took a 5-3 lead, Best Virginia went on an 11-1 run which included five points from Reese.

Reese was the star of the first half, as he totaled 16 points en route to leading Best Virginia to a 39-25 halftime lead.

Best Virginia’s lead continued through the third quarter as it led 62-45 going into the final period.

The Dubois dream started to close the gap in the fourth quarter, as Best Virginia’s lead dwindled to 62-57 at the 5:45 mark.

At the four-minute mark in the fourth quarter, the game moved to an Elam Ending. As the score was 64-60 Best Virginia, the total to reach was 72.

Reese turned the ball over against the press and the Dream capitalized with a dunk by forward Dalton Bolon.

Best Virginia received a technical foul for calling a timeout without possession and Bolon added two free throws to tie the game at 64. Forward Shane Hunter gave the Dream its first lead of the second half with a free throw to make it 65-64.

The Dream took charge with a 69-65 lead before a three-point swing by WVU.
