Report: Jerrod Calhoun Agreeing to Extension to Stay at Utah State

West Virginia still doesn’t have a head coach and it now appears as if another top candidate is off the board. According to reports, Utah State is finalizing an extension with Jerrod Calhoun to keep him for the foreseeable future.
While some may assume Calhoun turned WVU down, this could just as easily mean Wren Baker has something else up his sleeve. After Ben McCollum took the Iowa job, WV Sports Now started hearing a “Wild Card” option could also be in play.
It’s also known that WVU will be receiving upwards of over $6 million from Indiana for Darian DeVries and Baker admitted to being prepared to offer a contract extension to DeVries prior to his departure.
WVU is getting over $6 million from Indiana for DeVries. Wren Baker admitted they were prepared to offer DeVries a contract extension so more money. WVU spent more in NIL than some of the schools who have hired coaches. Anyone saying WVU couldn’t pay for Calhoun is just wrong.

Calhoun is a familiar name for WVU fans, having been an assistant coach under Bob Huggins from 2007-12. Following his time in Morgantown, Calhoun had a successful five-year stay at Division-II Fairmont State before moving up to Youngstown State in 2017.
Following a rocky first year with the Penguins, Calhoun helped turn that program around, culminating in back-to-back 20-win seasons in 2022-23 and 2023-24. He was hired by Utah State this offseason and has led the Aggies to the NCAA Tournament with a 26-7 record.
