West Virginia’s basketball program offered 2026 guard Marcus Johnson out of Ohio on Thursday. Johnson is 6-foot-1 and just finished the 8th grade.

Johnson’s father, Sonny Johnson, was excited for his son to receive his first Power-5 offer.

“Marcus Johnson, 2026 played up 25 and received an OFFER from The Legend [Bob Huggins],” Johnson wrote.

West Virginia became Johnson’s fifth offer with Detroit Mercy, Jackson State, Ohio and Youngstown State. Johnson is set to play at Garfield Heights in Cleveland. Johnson has been considered a top player in his class since the 2nd grade.

Johnson comes from a long line of great players in his family. Marcus’ father, Sonny, played Division-I basketball and won 1998 Ohio’s Mr. Basketball award. Marcus is also related to Sonny Johnson Jr., who is at Detroit Mercy and his cousin, Meechie Johnson, who just transferred to South Carolina.

The guard from Ohio becomes the second 2026 recruit to be offered by WVU. Isaac Ellis, a guard from North Carolina, was offered back in March.
