WVU Basketball Non-Conference Schedule Announced

WVU basketball shared its non-conference schedule on Thursday, featuring three exhibition games in October.

Fans will get a first look at WVU in an exhibition game at Maryland on Oct. 18. The next two exhibitions feature two Division II teams from West Virginia with a trip to Glenville State on Oct. 23  while hosting Wheeling on Oct. 28.

The Mountaineers will open the season with three home games: Niagara on Nov. 2, Stetson on Nov. 6 and Mercer on Nov. 12.

Next, WVU will play in the Players Era Championship in Las Vegas with a matchup against Auburn on Nov. 17. the team’s next game will feature either UNLV or Kansas on Nov. 18 and potentially Houston, Rutgers, Florida or Notre Dame on Nov. 19.

WVU will then face UNC in a neutral site game as part of the Dick Vitale Invitational on Nov. 27. To open December, WVU will host Mercyhurst on Dec. 1 and Virginia Tech on Dec. 5.

Dec. 9 holds an opportunity for head coach Ross Hodge to remain undefeated in the Backyard Brawl with a game at Pitt. Coppin State awaits WVU after that on Dec. 13 with Northern Arizona on Dec. 16.

WVU’s last power 4 game in the non-conference slate will be Wake Forest in the Holiday Hoopfest in Charleston on Dec. 19. WVU’s final non-conference game will be when it hosts South Carolina State on Dec. 21.

In Hodge’s first year, West Virginia finished the season at 18-14 with a 9-10 Big 12 record, including 0-1 in the conference tournament. The Mountaineers finished with three straight wins, culminating in a College Basketball Crown Championship.
