WVU Athletics Reveals Record Fundraising Numbers

As college athletics continues to change at a rapid pace, Mountaineer Nation answered the call for WVU like never before.

Fueled by the generosity of thousands of supporters committed to Investing in Champions, the Mountaineer Athletic Club (MAC), Gold & Blue Enterprises (GBE) and West Virginia Athletics celebrated the most successful fiscal year in department history during FY26. Record-breaking philanthropy, strong fan support and landmark corporate partnerships combined to position WVU Athletics for sustained success.

The year was highlighted by a record $111 million in philanthropic support, nearly tripling the department’s previous single-year fundraising record of $38 million. Supported by a record 7,934 Mountaineer Athletic Club members, the milestone reflects an extraordinary commitment from Mountaineers who believe in the future of West Virginia Athletics.

“The numbers speak for themselves, but what stands out most is the number of people who chose to support WVU Athletics,” Vice President and Director of Athletics Wren Baker said. “Whether through a major gift, annual giving, season tickets or one of our new initiatives, every investment strengthens our ability to support student-athletes and move this department forward. We’re incredibly grateful for that commitment.”

The historic year comes at a pivotal time for intercollegiate athletics, as universities continue adapting to new revenue-sharing models, increased investment in student-athlete support and a rapidly changing competitive landscape. Through philanthropy, ticket sales and strategic partnerships, WVU Athletics strengthened its foundation while creating the additional resources needed to compete for championships in the years ahead.

Championship Resource Fund 

Launched in August 2025, the Championship Resource Fund became the Mountaineer Athletic Club’s primary giving opportunity for supporters looking to directly strengthen WVU Athletics’ competitive position. As a key component of the record $111 million in philanthropic support highlighted above, the fund generated more than $5.5 million during its first year. Gifts to the Championship Resource Fund support the work of GBE, WVU’s in-house NIL agency, creating additional opportunities and resources for Mountaineer student-athletes while giving Mountaineer supporters a direct way to invest in NIL through the MAC.

Ticket Sales

Mountaineer Nation’s investment extended well beyond philanthropy.

Fans generated $20.7 million in ticket revenue during FY26, making it the first time in department history WVU Athletics surpassed $20 million in ticket revenue in consecutive years. The back-to-back milestone underscores the continued demand for Mountaineer Athletics and the strength of its fan base.

Strategic Partnerships

WVU Athletics’ corporate partnership portfolio also reached new milestones during FY26.

In September, WVU Athletics and GBE announced a long-term partnership with Hope Gas, renaming the University’s iconic WVU Coliseum to Hope Coliseum. The agreement established an important recurring revenue stream while preserving one of the strongest home-court environments in college athletics and supporting future investments in the student-athlete and fan experience.

Building on that success, WVU Athletics and Learfield also secured one of the largest corporate sponsorship agreements in department history through a multi-year jersey patch partnership with Antero Resources. The monumental agreement further reflects the growing value of the Mountaineer brand while creating another sustainable revenue source for the department.

“College athletics requires us to think differently about how we generate revenue and support our programs,” Baker said. “The support we received this year from our donors, fans and corporate partners puts us in a stronger position moving forward. We’re thankful for their confidence in WVU Athletics, and we’re committed to being good stewards of that investment.”

The year concluded with unprecedented energy as the Mountaineer Athletic Club recorded its largest fundraising month in history during June through its Membership Matters campaign.

The record-setting accomplishments of FY26 provide significant forward progress as WVU Athletics continues investing in student-athlete resources, championship-caliber facilities and transformational experiences while preparing for the future.
