West Virginia’s Javon Small in Top 10 for Major National Award
Javon Small has been named one of the top 10 candidates for the 2025 Point Guard of the Year Award.
Released by the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame on Monday, Small is still in the running as the group of players have been cut down to a top 10.
Small, West Virginia’s senior point guard, leads the Mountaineers in nearly all statistical categories, including scoring (19.0), assists (5.1), steals (1.8), three-pointers (52) and minutes (36.1).
In terms of the Big 12, Small is first in scoring, fourth in assists, ninth in steals and first in minutes played. He is also 12th in shooting (42.5%) and fourth in free throw shooting (88.1%).
Small led all scorers with 19 points in West Virginia’s 63-50 win at Cincinnati on Sunday. He also dished out nine assists with two blocks and two steals.
The men’s Point Guard of the Year Award is named for Bob Cousy and the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association’s women’s Point Guard of the Year Award is named for Nancy Lieberman.
The remaining candidates for the Bob Cousy Award are Mark Sears (Alabama), Walter Clayton Jr. (Florida), Ryan Nembhard (Gonzaga), Keshon Gilbert (Iowa State), Kam Jones (Marquette), Ace Baldwin Jr. (Penn State), Braden Smith (Purdue), Dylan Harper (Rutgers), Zakai Zeigler (Tennessee) and Javon Small (West Virginia).
Fan voting for the award will be open on hoophallawards.com beginning on Feb. 7.
