JJ Quinerly was named to the Ann Meyers Drysdale National Player of the Year Award midseason watchlist, released by the U.S. Basketball Writers Association Monday afternoon.

The Ann Meyers Drysdale Award is presented annually to the best player in women’s college basketball, as voted on by members of the USBWA. It is the second season in a row Quinerly has been named to the award’s midseason watchlist.

Quinerly has scored double-digit points in all 20 games this season with eight 20-point performances. She scored a season-best 31 points on New Year’s Day in an 80-58 win over UCF.

Quinerly leads the Mountaineers in scoring (19.2 points per game) and steals (69). She is tied for fourth in the Big 12 in scoring and leads the conference in steals.

The senior is seventh all-time in WVU history in scoring with 1,747 career points. She is third in program history with 300 steals.

Quinerly and the Mountaineers avenged an earlier loss with a 54-37 win over Oklahoma State on Saturday. Quinerly scored 15 points with eight steals, four rebounds and four assists.

WVU plays twice this week, first hosting Kansas Wednesday at 7 p.m. for the program’s Black History Month Celebration. The Mountaineers then travel to Houston for a game on Saturday at 3 p.m.
