WVU Football Earns Votes in Latest AP Poll After Virginia Win

Though they didn’t get ranked, WVU football earned some votes in the Associated Press’ latest poll.

As released on Sunday, West Virginia gained 93 votes after their 38-27 upset win over previously No. 25 Virginia. The Cavaliers have been pushed out of the rankings with the loss.

West Virginia also received 55 points worth of votes in the Coaches Poll.

Picking up the signature win inside Bank of America Stadium in the neutral site location of Charlotte, N.C., the Mountaineers eventually pulled away of what was a back and forth game throughout most of the night.

Quarterback Mike Hawkins exceeded 100 yards passing and 100 rushing for the third-straight game, sending 190 through the air and 123 on the ground. He also scored five total touchdowns, with a pair passing and three with his legs. Running back Cam Cook also rushed for 123 yards of his own.

With the win, the Mountaineers return home at 3-0 as they head into Big 12 play and another prime-time matchup against Oklahoma State. Kickoff from Milan Puskar Stadium is set for 7:00 pm ET on Saturday, Sept. 26.
