WVU Football Running Back Jahiem White a Front Page Star

WVU Football running back Jahiem White isn’t just making headlines after racking up more than 950 offensive yards in each of his first two seasons — and leading the Mountaineers in rushing yards — as part of a three-headed backfield that included quarterback Garrett Greene and fellow tailback CJ Donaldson Jr.

White is also making cover pages, gracing the front page of the preview edition of college football magazines Athlon Sports and Lindy’s Sports. He’s the only athlete to land on both cover pages, each of which contains three athletes. Kansas State’s Avery Johnson and Iowa State’s Rocco Becht join White on Athlon Sports, while Virginia Tech’s Kyron Drones and UNC’s Kobe Paysour landed on Lindy’s cover page. Of the five players included, Paysour is the only other non-quarterback beyond White.

With Donaldson departed for Ohio State and Garrett Greene graduated, White will serve as the featured back for WVU Football in 2025. Despite the Mountaineers’ coaching change, he decided to stay in Morgantown for another season, and will see NFL Draft buzz at the end of the year if he manages to succeed in his new role. PFF listed White at No. 10 on their list of the best running backs who decided to stay with their school instead of hitting the transfer portal or exiting for the NFL Draft.

New head coach Rich Rodriguez, now in his second stint with the Mountaineers, said during spring practices that White was the only player he felt confident about listing atop the depth chart, a testament to the rising junior’s talent amidst a roster in flux. White missed time during the spring with an undisclosed injury, but should be more than ready to go before the season begins.
