To complete the exit of the entire 2025 running back room, Tye Edwards announced he’s going to be a late entrant into the transfer portal on Wednesday.

Known as a Backyard Brawl hero, Edwards became a WVU fan favorite after his three-touchdown performance in the 2025 Backyard Brawl on Sept. 13. He had 141 yards on 25 rushes in the game.

Making his monster performance even more impressive, Edwards admitted to having to conquer another unstable beyond the Panthers’ defense. He said he deals with severe anxiety, and it was an added obstacle throughout the game due to the large crowd and the magnitude of the moment.

“Every game I play, I got real bad anxiety. I always get tired. All the training, all the running doesn’t mean nothing. The first couple plays, I’m super drained, super tired, anxious.”

The only other game he received touches in was against BYU on Sept. 16, where he carried the ball twice for two yards. He then missed the rest of the season with an injury.

In 2024, Edwards rushed for 1,012 yards and six touchdowns while averaging 6.4 yards per carry.

Edwards also spent time at UTSA, Hutchinson Community College and Georgia Military School throughout his college career.

Edwards was named a JUCO All-American in 2021.
