Mountaineer Maniacs Ask Request of Fans Planning to Attend BYU Game
With a pivotal game coming up at the end of the month, the WVU student section has a message for those who will be in attendance at the Hope Coliseum.
The Mountaineer Maniacs want students and fans in general to provide West Virginia a home advantage that will be tough for the No. 20 raked BYU Cougars to deal with on Feb. 28. However, the Maniacs want that environment to still be respectful and not resemble what BYU experienced recently at Oklahoma State.
“BYU comes to Hope Coliseum February 28th. This is a great reminder to keep it classy, but have fun! Itโll be a great environment!,” responded the Maniacs to the Big 12’s announcement about fining Oklahoma State for the actions of their fans.

On Sunday, the Big 12 fined Oklahoma State as the schoolโs punishment for the inappropriate chants heard during a menโs basketball game against BYU earlier in the week.
Statement from the Big 12 Conference:
โIn accordance with the Big 12 Conference Principles and Standards of Sportsmanship, the Conference has issued Oklahoma State University a $50,000 fine following its investigation into inappropriate chants which referenced the Mormon religion that occurred during Wednesdayโs menโs basketball game. The Big 12 Conference will not tolerate any behavior that targets or demeans others.โ
The Oklahoma State Cowboys upset the No. 16 BYU Cougars by the score of 99-92.
Conference commissioner Brett Yormark released a statement about the incident on the morning after the game.
Yormarkโs statement and the fine were both sent to conference media, including WV Sports Now.
