The Big 12 has fined Oklahoma State as the school’s punishment for the inappropriate chants heard during a men’s basketball game against BYU earlier in the week.

Statement from the Big 12 Conference:

“In accordance with the Big 12 Conference Principles and Standards of Sportsmanship, the Conference has issued Oklahoma State University a $50,000 fine following its investigation into inappropriate chants which referenced the Mormon religion that occurred during Wednesday’s men’s basketball game. The Big 12 Conference will not tolerate any behavior that targets or demeans others.”

The Oklahoma State Cowboys upset the No. 16 BYU Cougars by the score of 99-92.

Conference commissioner Brett Yormark released a statement about the incident on the morning after the game.
