Will WVU fans be able to watch an athlete play both football and baseball for the Mountaineers? The possibility could be there since dual-sport recruit James Nesta has West Virginia in his top 8 schools.

Nesta, who is plays both football and baseball at William Amos Hough High School in Cornelius, North Carolina, revealed that he’s narrowed down his current list to eight programs. West Virginia is in the mix with several prominent schools known for success in both sports.

Duke, North Carolina, North Carolina State, Kentucky, Tennessee, USC and Virginia Tech are also still in the hunt for Nester. Football wise, he’s spent time playing both linebacker and defensive end. As for baseball, Nesta is a pitcher with MLB potential.

While he’s showing an interest in playing both sports and is talking with baseball coaches during his visits, football is what’s earned Nesta a four-star rating from most national recruiting outlets.

Nesta is ranked as the number 10 overall football recruit in North Carolina and the number 29 linebacker in the country by 247 Sports. Rivals sees him more as a defensive end in college, labeling him the number 18 player in his state. He’s regarded  as the 355th best junior prospect.

The possibility to excel in baseball is there as well. Nesta holds a 9.5 rating from Perfect Game and is being projected as a top 10 MLB Draft pick in the future.

Nesta most recently visited Morgantown in March.

Prior to shrinking his list, Boston College, Charlotte, Connecticut, East Carolina, Liberty, Marshall, Old Dominion, Tulane, Vanderbilt, Wake Forest and even Elon made offers and showed interest in Nesta.
