WVU Football Projected to Appear in Brand New Bowl Game
Needing just one more win to earn bowl eligibility, WVU football finds itself in a new game projection at the start of the new week.
After being predicted to appear in the Independence Bowl in recent weeks, one ESPN writer now has West Virginia taking part in a brand new bowl game instead. This would pit WVU against UMass in the Puerto Rico Bowl at Juan Ramรณn Loubriel Stadium in Bayamรณn, Puerto Rico on Tuesday, Dec. 22. The Puerto Rico Bowl is scheduled to kickoff at 1:30 pm ET.
But even with this one new projection, the Mountaineers were also placed in the Radiance Technologies Independence Bowl by another ESPN writer. WVU would face Washington at Independence Stadium Shreveport, Louisiana also on Dec. 21, granted at night at 8:30 pm ET.ย
Both of these bowl games will air nationally on ESPN.
Coming off a bye week, West Virginia (5-3, 2-3 โ Big 12) will be back in action on Nov. 7 in Week 10 at Texas Tech (7-1, 4-1 โ Big 12).
Historically, reaching a bowl game would be the 42nd all-time for West Virginia. The Mountaineers own a bowl record of 17-23. Rodriguez was 2-3 in bowl games during his first tenure at WVU, granted his two wins came in his last two opportunities, one being a Sugar Bowl win to cap off the 2005 season.
