West Virginia Picks Up Star 2019 Linebacker

On Saturday, the Mountaineers gained a commitment from class of 2019 linebacker Lee Kpogba out of Parkland High School in Winston-Salem, NC.

Kpogba chose the Mountaineers over other offers from East Carolina and Old Dominion and several other schools showing interest. Kpogba currently checks in at a healthy 6’2″ and 210-lbs. and will only grow into his frame even more once reaching Morgantown.

He has great instincts and can rush off of the edge to be a disruptive force in the backfield. Kpogba tells me, “I feel I could be a linebacker or a safety in that defense,” when asked about the 3-3-5 stack. “I feel as if my coverage is good enough, but I will play wherever Coach Gibson feels is the best spot for me and the team.”

Kpogba also has a connection with current Mountaineer running back Kennedy McKoy.

“I know Kennedy. He is from the same area I’m from and his high school coach coached me as well.”

After talking with Kpogba, it was clear that he was blown away by the facilities. “I love the facilities a lot. Their indoor facility is very nice and I like their weight room a lot. I just basically like everything overall about West Virginia, but I can say I will have to get used to that weather though,” he said jokingly.

Kpogba seems to be a hard commit to West Virginia. “Since I was a little kid, I have been watching WVU, so for them to offer me was almost like a dream come true.”

Kpogba joins kicker Kolton McGhee as the 2nd commit of West Virginia’s 2019 recruiting class.
