Rams May Cut Ties With Former Mountaineer Tavon Austin

Published

on

The Los Angeles Rams are expected to cut former Mountaineer great Tavon Austin.

It was just about a year and half ago that Austin signed a four-year 42-million-dollar contract extension that kept him in Los Angeles through 2021.

The Rams are looking to make salary cap space to sign defensive tackle Aaron Donald and possibly making him the highest paid defensive player in the league.

Los Angeles can save eight million in cap space by cutting Tavon. They would save three million now and another five million by cutting him before March, cause of a roster bonus.

Austin did not have much production as a Rams receiver. Mountaineer fans have been frustrated for not using his talents correctly.  With former Rams head coach Jeff Fisher being fired there was optimism that new head coach Sean McVay would find ways to get him the ball in space.  He primarily used Tavon as a decoy.

It’s too early to tell where Tavon could land, but with teams like the Saints and the Patriots that know how to use an undersized receiver, those could be prime destinations for Austins talents.
